September Blizzard of the Month
Oreo Cookie Jar Blizzard Treat

[New for 2009, Returned 2019]
Is it just me, or is DQ going all out this month with the new Oreo Cookie Jar Blizzard?

I mean, this thing even has it's own flash website for the ingredients so you can tell other people about this blizzard. That's some hard core treat love. I would guess that it's all part of a push to increase membership in the Blizzard Fan club. Flash is nice, but really, all I want to know is if this thing is as good as it sounds: Cookie dough, OREO cookie pieces and rich fudge blended with creamy vanilla soft serve. It's so tasty sounding that we've all agreed to try one this month. I look forward to it in general, I'm thinking my wife is excited by the thought of cookie dough, and my daughter was convinced when I showed her the picture labeled cookie jar blizzard.

As soon as you see this blizzard, you will be impressed. Usually the Oreo bits are blended into oblivion, but not here. Look at the closeup below, you will notice big chunks of Oreos as well as a wad of cookie dough bits stuck together with fudge. Mmmmm, you see it on the screen and wish it was real, don't you? I sure do!

"It's DQ-tiful!"

Dear DQ,
Please feel free to use the term DQ-tiful that my daughter came up with after I handed her the awesome looking cookie jar blizzard. All I ask in return is a lifetime supply of blizzards for her to enjoy.

Thanks!
Dubba

So it looks great, but how does it taste? Awesome! to me, just awesome! The Oreo hunks are super fresh, and let me point out something here: this isn't just the cookie pieces, they've blended up the whole cookie. Best Oreo blizzard I've ever had, I'm loving every crunchy bite. It feels like the cookies just rolled off the assembly line. The crunch took center stage in my mind and muted out any other thoughts like how the soft serve has a nice mild chocolate/cookie flavor to it.

My wife likes it, but I think she's disappointed, and I understand why. This bad boy is called cookie jar and we're given the impression that this is about cookie dough and Oreo bits. However, the cookie dough is lost in this tasty creation. You hit some chunks now and then, but their flavor is lost, and their soft texture is masked by the crunchy goodness. They just don't seem to add anything. I guess the texture contrast is nice, but overall, they could be gone and I wouldn't miss them. Maybe if there was more of them, or if there flavor was more potent, then this would truly be called cookie jar. I wonder if you could use like sugar cookie bits or something, but then I also wonder if the chocolate Oreo would drown out the sugar cookie as well.

Do we like it? yes! Do we love it? 2 out of 3 say yes! There's no denying these were some of the best made blizzards we've ever had. Maybe it's because it's end of summer and all the part time employees are now master blizzard makers. I loathe overly blended blizzards as much as I loathe under blended blizzards. Sure I will still eat them, but it's that great middle ground that keeps me going back for more.

I guess my only complaint would be the name. It's not that this is a bad blizzard, far from it, this is the best Oreo blizzard I've ever had, but is it really a cookie jar? You need to go into this expecting Oreos, not cookie dough, so be warned ...and then enjoy! This is one you have to try.

Oh, one final note: Our blizzards were very melted looking which seemed really odd. Look at the edge of the cup in the closeup, you will see the blizzard has become totally melted - the upside down test right now would result in a very messy self. It didn't effect the taste, and they were still nice and cold, it was just weird being handed a dripping blizzard. We briefly debated if it was on purpose or not.

  2. Oh, that stinks. Ours were fantastic, though, it does look like mine has a double scoop of mixins.
