Ben & Jerry's Chocolate Macadamia Ice Cream Review

[New for 2009, now discontinued] Chocolate Macadamia...it's a flavor with a mission. As much as Ben & Jerry do for the planet and it's people, they're taking it up another notch with sustainable macadamia nuts and fair trade cocoa and vanilla (no messing with Vanillin here). They've put a lot of thought into this product, but how does it taste?

Chocolate & Vanilla Ice Creams with Fudge Covered Macadamia Nuts

First off, I don't think I've ever had macadamia nuts before. Flavor is decent, not too potent, and they're fairly soft and easy to bite through. They also have a fudge coating, not to thick though. The base ice cream mix is good quality and good texture (as always), but to be honest, I don't know if it's winning me over. Actually, let's rephrase that: I'm not sure I was in the mood for it. For whatever reason, B&J have swirled the chocolate and vanilla ice cream together, so you wind up with a mild chocolate flavor. I'd say it's less potent than a chocolate milkshake. It's respectable, don't get me wrong, just be prepared for something mild, almost like a popsicle....well, a popsicle with nuts anyway.

Bonus Info: Images from a sculptor in the U.K. who was inspired by this new Ben and Jerry's fair trade flavor.

On Second Scoop: Well, I'm still bored with this flavor. The ratio of chocolate to vanilla creates a mixed flavor that just doesn't seem to excite me. The macadamia nuts also don't add much zing.

  2. I LOVE Chocolate Macadamia Ben & Jerry's, but I am having trouble finding it as well, I bought out all the ones I could find, but it's been a while and I haven't seen them replenished. I hope it hasn't been dis-continued!
