Back in July, I got an email from Lovin' Scoopful's PR company. You may have heard of them, they are the ones who donate 25% of post tax profits to charity. In particular, you may have seen Maria Shriver on the Colbert Report. Now for me, I start thinking Shriver > Special Olympics > Kennedys > east coast kinda thing, but Lovin' Scoopful is actually distributed out of Washington state. The good news is that since they started in 2008 they have slowly been working their way east. In late August, I got word that local Big Y grocery stores are now carrying Lovin' Scoopful. Good news for me as a couple of freebie coupons arrived in the mail shortly there after.
So here is my first official foray into Loving Scoopful Ice Cream, Yummy Cake & Cookie Dough. It's a cake flavored ice cream with "chunks" of chocolate and "heaps" of chocolate chip cookie dough.

Toppings: Smuckers Chocolate Sundae Syrup Review
Time for a chocolate rush people! I've never officially reviewed Smuckers Fat Free Chocolate Syrup so it seems like I should do it when I have these free samples at my disposal --- There's some Caramel samples too, but I've already (cheesily) reviewed caramel before.
So I dumped way too much chocolate syrup onto of the worst ice cream ever made and decided to see how it tastes. I had a few straight little scoops of just syrup and it's pretty potent, but the thing is, I'm not sure I could really tell the difference between this and hersey's syrup if I was blindfolded. I had a few bites with the ice cream but this awful ice cream is driving me nuts. I decided to let it melt a little bit and stirred to the whole thing up into an overly chocolate milkshake (which I already kind of regret).
Do I like it? Well, it's not that it's bad, but I think any true ice cream topping needs to stand up on it's own. I'm pretty sure if I were to take too many bites of this stuff, I would probably.... not feel well shall we say. It's not like you could drink this and be going "mmmm, it's like liquid chocolate", but technically I could count this as a postitive since it prevents me from downing one of these as my afternoon snack everyday. I know it's meant to accent whatever you are eating, that it's not meant to be had on it's own, so it's a fine typical topping, I just don't think it's anything special. At least it's super easy to pour!
Nutrition: 100 calories per 2 Tbsp, no fat, no cholesterol, 1g fiber, a little protein

What's better than a free lunch?
It's the age old question really, like why is the planet round or why is the sky blue... ok, those questions can be answered by science and logic, just like what's better than a free lunch. The answer? Ice cream with your free lunch ofcourse!
This is by far the {messiest} looking treat I have ever posted. You could definitely say I went a smidge bit nutty, but when presented with a giant table full of treats and a bunch of crazy coworkers, well what was I suppose to do? Underneath that mess is a big lump of neapolitan ice cream. What's on top is whip cream, crushed heath bar, a few chocolate chips and white chocolate chips, a crushed waffle bowl for crunch, some M&Ms, sprinkles (because sprinkles rock!), some chocolate sauce.... and then some strawberry sauce to be on the safe side. There was also walnuts and almonds which I did not go for, but there were some mini desserts so I threw the brownie in for good measure. Since we didn't have any cherries, I decided to top mine with a mini Reese's peanut but cup.
Diagnosis: waayyyyyyyyyyyyy too sweet! The strawberries with the Smuckers chocolate sauce were way too much. Actually, it was probably more the sauce then the strawberries. The waffle bowl was good but the brownie was the star of the show. Looking back I wish I had thrown in 3 or 4 of them on the bottom to start off with.
Oh man, writing that sentence just made me hungry again...
I'm sure the calorie count ain't pretty so let's just say it's a good thing I had a bunch of manual stuff to do today because otherwise I probably would have faded off to nap time like all of my fellow desk jockeys. Thanks to my work for the decent lunch followed by a most excellent dessert table that put a smile on everyone's face.
On Second Scoop: There are plenty of leftovers so I had myself another (more moderate) bowl yesterday. I figured out what that weird taste was. It's the cheap and horribly artificial strawberry price-rite ice cream!
Click to zoom in... if you dare!!

Friendly's Cookie Jar Signature Milkshake Review
Labels: discontinued - drink - fast_food - friendlys - review
[2013 Update: didnt make the new revised menu]
I really want some ice cream now, but there's just one problem. You see, I had a "signature" milkshake for lunch. Not sure what that means? No worries, I didn't either... nor did the nice lady behind the counter. She pulled out a menu and sure enough there was a picture of the new signature shakes.
Cookies & Cream style milkshakes? Sign me up!! but let me clarify something first. We're a little wacky here in New England. Some places sell frappes (pronounced fraps) and some places sell milkshakes. Now good luck getting the same answer out of two people as to what the difference is. To make matters worse, some unique places try to mess with your brain so that you have absolutely no idea what's going on. Friendly's would probably be one of those places.

Friday Night Fight
Popsicle brand Jell-o Pudding Pops
Housecleaning #5: Ok, who here is old enough to remember these?
photo courtesy of fourth grade nothing
I was preparing to do my tonight's post when I ran across this comparison from fourth grade nothing. Ally is right when she says that tonight's product is nothing like the original. The originals were just awesome. They were a nice, big, proud frozen pudding that was a great snack. I want to say I was a big fan of the vanilla & chocolate swirl ones. I can still remember ripping open a box (just wish I could find a picture of one... here is another post complaining about the new pops). Ok, enough reminscing.
Just like before we have 3 flavors. Chocolate, Vanilla, and Chocolate & Vanilla.
World Smile Day
Labels: life - other_blogs
Did you know it's world smile day? You are suppose to "Do an act of kindness. Help one person smile!". Hmmmm, I wonder if I could find some happy ice cream to make everyone smile today?
Well what should pop up but the works of fellow blogger Yummy Pancake. She has a store up on etsy which actually includes a complete, do it yourself happy happy ice cream cone kit
(I smell stocking stuffer!)
