Edy's / Dreyer's Maxx Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough An Ice Cream Review

[By Nick, discontinued after 2013] Hey look, another Edy’s Maxx review but this time I didn’t pick this faux-pint up at a gas station! I was wandering through Rite Aid waiting to get my prescription filled (I hate getting sick) and noticed they had a freezer section. Obviously I had to check out the situation and saw this container staring back at me. Since I’ve yet to find this flavor elsewhere I decided to pick it up along with my prescription. Ice cream is medicine as well right?

This is Edy's Maxx Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough ice cream and I’m really getting sick of companies not putting descriptions on their containers. Is the base vanilla or some other flavor? Are the chips milk chocolate or dark? Or are they chunks? These are some serious questions that are left unanswered by the lack of a description. The Maxx line not having its own website doesn’t help things either. /Rant

Edy’s Maxx Chocolate Peanut Butter Chunk Review

[By Nick, discontinued after 2013] Ah, it’s the age old question of what came first, the chocolate or the peanut butter? Wait that’s not how it goes? Moving on then…

It is one of the greatest combinations in the sweet and salty world and one of my favorite food combinations as well. So it was pretty easy for me to pick up this container of Edy’s Maxx Chocolate Peanut Butter Chunk.

These Maxx containers are really eye catching and I like the overall design of them. There is one flaw though; there is absolutely no description of what is actually going on inside the container. What happened to the good old days when there would be a nice little description? It’s either something way too long and dragged on or it’s just not there at all. From my awesome observational skills, I’m just going to go with it being chocolate ice cream mixed with peanut butter swirls and chunks of chocolate like I've experienced in their other varieties. Let’s see if my assumption is right, shall we?

Edy's MAXX Cherry Chocolate Bomb Ice Cream

[By Nick, discontinued after 2013] This is probably the unpopular opinion here but I absolutely hate summer. It is by far my least favorite season. I’m not a fan of sweating, swimming, or (insert other summer activity that starts with s here). One of the only good things about summer is the abundance of fresh fruit, and more specifically, cherries. Sure you can get cherries year round but nothing compares to the ones you get from your local farmers’ market. Juicy, tart, and sweet, these divine gifts alone help to dilute my hatred towards these sweltering months.

You would think that with my love affair with cherries that cherry ice cream would be one of my favorites. On the contrary though, this is not the case. I know Dubba’s wife will hunt me down for saying this but I actually find Cherry Garcia to be very overrated. Sure it’s a fine ice cream and all but it’s not something I find myself craving.

A recent stop to get gas led me to spotting this faux pint of Edy’s MAXX Chocolate Cherry Bomb Ice Cream. It looks as if Edy’s is taking a stab at the flavor profile that Ben & Jerry’s holds in such high praise. Described as “Cherry Ice Cream with Cherries and Chocolaty Chunks”, it sounds exactly like what those Vermont hippies have been churning out for years.

Edy's Chocolate Fudge Brownie MAXX Ice Cream

[New for 2010, discontinued after 2013] Wow, some of my favorites words there: NEW, CHOCOLATE, FUDGE, and BROWNIE (well, and ICE CREAM of course). I went to get some gas at lunch and I knew I needed a treat, but I wasn't expecting anything NEW from a gas station. I think I'm excited about my $2.99 treat!

Notice the big " Nestle Toll House " logo, looks like we have chocolate chips in either the ice cream or the brownies, but there's no description so I guess I'll just have to look for myself.

I just made myself walk the 3/4 of a mile to the gas station to see what they had for Edy's ( Dreyer's ) MAXX flavors. I was in no mood for mint, wary of the drumstick, and just not ready for peanut butter chunk. I grabbed the Butterfinger MAXX, handed over my $2.99, and headed back to the office.
