[New for Early 2025] The buttery maple version of this treat made a
pretty good impression, and I've been thinking about trying this version ever
since. It's time to crack open an $8 box of....

Eggo Chocolatey Chip Ice Cream
Sandwiches
chocolate and brown butter flavored ice cream with chocolate chips, sandwiched
between two brown butter waffle cookies

Wrapped and dated!

I forgot to read the description again. I thought this might be vanilla ice
cream with chocolate chips, but it's definitely a very light brown-ish color.
Also, I was expecting bigger chocolate chips.
I didn't have a ton of thoughts on this first sandwich other than being
underwhelmed a bit. Before purchasing, I had started convincing myself that this would click in
better than the maple version, but it didn't. It's not bad, but it's not an
improvement.
I think the problem is that nothing is popping here. With the maple, you kind
of focus in on the maple. Here, the chocolate/brown butter ice cream is super
mild, and then the chips seems to be a non-factor.
To be clear, I'm not saying these are bad. What I'm saying is that while the waffle cookies are fun, they are still a dry cookie, and I was looking for something
to counteract that dryness. I think a fudge swirl would probably help. The other alternative would be for bigger and more plentiful chocolatey
chips to distract me from the cookies... at one point, I did consider
rolling this sandwich in chocolate chips just for fun (and flavor). I should
probably let my second sandwich temper more to see if that helps,
but for now, I'm a bit meh on this variety.
On Second Scoop: I focused on dryness and mini chocolate chips today, and I think I'm still feeling that this one needs tweaking. Fudge swirl is probably the easiest answer, but maybe they arent setup for that. Increasing the thickness of the filling might work. I don't regret my purchase, but I don't foresee picking these up again >>> I like these less and less every time I eat them.
Verdict? just not amusing

Now I'm wondering how the eggo pints are. I don't think I've seen a review of those anywhere.
ReplyDeleteThere is potential.
I'll hold off on buying these based on what you write.
I just can't get over the price on these. I double checked at Kroger (Atlanta area) last night and they are $8.99. Absolutely wild.
ReplyDeleteThanks for reminding me that I forgot the price in the review. Updated!
