Klondike Donuts

[New for 2020] The funnest item in my package of free unilever samples definitely has to be this next treat. Sure, plenty of people joke that someone stole the center or the Klondike Bar without lowering the price, but come on, if you see these, the donut name is going to grab your attention.

Frosted Strawberry - Boston Cream - Triple Chocolate

Disclaimer: two of the three samples were carrying the generic wrappers rather than the individual wrappers (see boston cream). It doesn't affect anything, just pointing it out incase you are wondering why I didn't photograph and post them.



Triple Chocolate - frozen chocolate dairy dessert bar with dark chocolatey coating, dark crunch pieces, and a milk chocolatey drizzle.


Boston Cream - frozen Boston cream dairy dessert bar with a Boston cream swirl with a milk chocolatey coating and a white confectionery drizzle



Frosted Strawberry - frozen strawberry dairy dessert bar with a strawberry swirl, milk chocolatey coating, sprinkles, and a white confectionery drizzle.

I'll be honest, I've tried to write this review a few times and I basically get bored and tune out every time I try. I want them to wow me but that's just not going to happen. I feel bad as there is part of me that still wants to love klondike bars, but these here are not going to rekindle that love.

I will not argue that these sound fun. I will not argue that these look fun once you unwrap them. But after that we might have a disagreement. It feels like someone got a clever idea and then just went home for the day. For example, these are suppose to have swirls...

...but the swirls are barely existent. I sliced up all three and this is the only one where i could kind of see the very thin swirls. I like the idea but they really needed to step it up here.

So, if you are interested, try the one you want when it's on sale and go from there. The strawberry is kind of fake, the chocolate is kind of weird, and the Boston cream will leave you wanting the real thing. Sorry to be down on the free samples, but it is what it is.

Verdict?  meh
Buy Again?  nope

    I'm so glad you got around to trying these. I tried the strawberry bc it had the best online review and struggled to finish them, instead of tossing them in the trash. I'm not a novelty ice cream eater and these certainly didn't help:(

    I think that they should had added chunks of donuts in there to give it a textural contract.

    This is their way of presenting the same product and giving less by cutting out the center in order to save money.

    @Mark: You read the opening paragraph right? Sure, maybe they save a few cents per bar, but how much did they have to invest in machinery and mechanics to remove the center from the bar? Maybe it was a little, but maybe it was a fair amount. We will probably never know.

    I tried the Boston Cream and Triple Chocolate and had the same response to both-too sweet. The regular flavors are much better.
