Talenti Almond Butter & Honey Gelato #49

[By Nick, New for 2018] The new products are coming! The new products are coming!! I’ve been seeing Dubba post about all the new stuff showing up on shelves this year but haven’t had any luck finding any of them. Until recently, I first found the new Magnum Ice Cream tubs which was pretty exciting. What was more exciting was finding this guy hiding in a sea of Haagen Dazs.

Talenti Almond Butter & Honey Gelato #49
Almond Butter Gelato with a Honey Swirl

Okay, exciting might be a bit of a stretch. This flavor doesn’t really sound all that exciting to me personally despite being a "special batch", whatever that means. However, it was nice to finally find a new product before everyone else out there. Okay, let's dig into the latest from Talenti!

This one looks nice. There’s plenty of noticeable swirl on the top. Sadly, the swirl isn’t properly distributed through the pint. There’s plenty of bites where you get nothing but base. The base is pretty mild to say the least. Do I get an almond butter flavor? Not really. I mean if I think hard enough about it, I might be able to recognize it as almond butter. If I didn’t know what they were going for, I probably would have issues identifying exactly what the base was. It lacks any real identity or depth to the flavor. It’s like a sweet cream with slight hints of almond. Not bad but nothing to write home about.

The swirl is the star flavor wise. I’m not a fan of honey on its own but mixed with the milkiness of the base, you could say it’s the bees knees (I have a feeling none of you miss my corniness). There’s not much to describe the swirls taste since it’s honey. However it’s the texture that’s different from traditional honey. It has the texture of a nice, gooey caramel. It’s not as sticky as honey tends to be which is a relief to me.

This flavor is missing an 'it' factor. There’s nothing about it that sticks out in a freezer aisle filled with options. Maybe an almond granola type crumble would’ve elevated the almond butter flavor and added something more to it. As is, it’s nothing worth going out of your way for.

Verdict?  Very mild almond butter flavor with a good honey swirl
Buy Again?  nope

  1. This sounds so good! I am so glad Talenti has new flavors - I was afraid the low sugar line would be their only new additions this year.

  5. I don't remember almond butter having a strong flavor. I'd prefer whole or sliced almonds in this. The honey caramel sounds good, though.

  6. Bzzzzzzt wrong answer! This flavor is the bomb! The honey is mo-fo amazing. I went to my local grocery and it was sold out last week; I went to today and sham bam! -- they were restocked. Both my husband and I love this flavor. Oh oh my! HELP!

  7. I liked it a lot, too! I enjoyed the creamy texture, and I didn’t expect the pleasant flowery taste of the honey. Many confection items saying they have “honey” in them tend to just taste like sugar syrup; this one feels very legit to me.
