Talenti Caramel Apple Pie Gelato #29

[New for 2014] Is winter over yet? I mean, how many commutes can be messed up in a single season? Granted I'll take a terrible 3 hour ride home over a few days of power loss, but this season needs to be done with, the two feet of snow in my yard needs to melt, and spring needs to kick in to action. Uggg. See, the two easy ways back to my house were both bogged down by the slippery ride home on Wednesday, so I took the long way, stopped in to Market Basket, and then nearly jumped for joy when I saw this.

Talenti Caramel Apple Pie Gelato
Cinnamon gelato with apples, flaky pie crust and a caramel swirl

That's right, brandy new Talenti for 2014 and I am stoked. Sure, Target is getting an exclusive hazelnut flavor, Fudge Brownie is going national, and Raspberries & Cream is coming out, but it's the caramel apple pie that has me most excited for a new season of frozen treats. I mean, just look at it, it's gorgeous. You can see the little bits floating in the gelato and I am so excited right now.

Oh my word, it smells like sweet, cinnamon-y perfection. I'm just gonna stop now.... review over..... my wife says it smells like perfume... I say it smells like a baked slice of awesome.

I take my first bites and it's wonderful, just wonderful. That wonderful, clean, slick Talenti texture, the delicate flavors. My word. It just melts in your mouth and gently turns in to delightful.... oh I just hit the wonderful caramel. Ahhh, I missed you old friend. You work so well here. A small, sweet, sugary burst amongst these delicate breakfast flavors. Wait, did I forget to mention it's 7 AM?

Awesome flavors like this are hard to put in to words. No artificial flavor, no gummy texture, just sweet gelato. I love that they play it so casually here. No one flavor sticks out. The cinnamon, the apple, the crust, it's all in balance. Even the milk and cream don't stand out, everything has come together perfectly. Doh, I need to take another picture.

Yeah, half the pint is already gone and I need to put this one away. Actually, I'm proud of myself for not devouring this in one sitting. It's just that good. A flavor like this you need to slow scoop. You scrape your spoon gently across the top and give yourself just a small slice of excellence. Don't over do it. If you do, you'll freeze your taste buds and miss this great addition to Talenti's line up.

Verdict?  AWESOME
Buy Again?  In a heartbeat

  1. I've got to find me this one. I've had the Hazelnut from Target, and it has supplanted Egg Nog as my favorite Talenti, but this may quickly overtake that one.

  2. I don't know how I missed this review earlier; I've been eagerly anticipating it!

I knew this one would be a winner.

I so admire your control to be able to eat ice cream slowly and not to consider the whole pint as one serving!

Totally share your feeling on the weather. It's like the winter that just won't die.

  3. Did you have any issues with icy pie crust pieces? They were throughout the pint I had and really off-putting. The base and caramel were still good but I wanted more cinnamon.

  4. nope, they were fresh, though they are on the dry side, so maybe that was throwing you off too?

  5. Finally found this at Safeway, with a NEW tag and everything. My expectations were high after this review but you were spot on. This is my new -all time- favorite ice cream.

  7. THIS. IS. AMAZING. I actually cursed very loudly in the middle of Giant when I saw the flavor (it was all the way at the back of the shelf, with only about 3 pints left). I knew it would be spectacular, and boy was I right. You really do want to just savor each bite. It's just like apple pie a la mode...BUT BETTER. Game changer.

  8. Oh, man, finally found this...it's %&*@**\&%*ing amazing. Needs more apple, though. At least in this pint. Good thing we got a second :)

  9. Dana, thanks again for the tip. My dad acquired all 3 pints for me. Not sure which one he went to but it had the brownie as well. Now I just need to wait until he's up my way to get them. That or I become impatient and take the drive out there.

  10. Hope this flavor is still available; from the flavor name, I assumed the base was Caramel, not Cinnamon (sort of the opposite of Cinnnamon Buns' caramel base), so I missed it last year.

  11. Yup, still around, grab a pint or two!

  12. Was available but not something I will get again (this is the second time I've tried Talenti, so maybe it's gelato or the brand). The Cinnamon ice cream base almost reminded me of Isabella's (which I hated); I expected it to have more of a kick, but it was pretty bland. The apple pieces were different (and the caramel was fine) but not good enough to overcome my disappointment with the base.

Perhaps I just like Cinnamon swirl/streusel rather than Cinnamon ice cream.
