As I start digging further into my treat, the pretzel cone starts to become a factor. You wind up hitting the cone as you lick the ice cream. It's basically a giant salt lick. This isn't some timid waffle cone, or some sweet chocolate coated cone, this is the mighty pretzel cone.
Doh, more cone breakage, but despite that, the cone is still dominating the experience here. The other guys on the nosh show asked me what I would pair with the cone to make it perfect, but an exact flavor didn't pop to mind. The reality is that the cone heavily dominates the experience but now that I've had the cone again, I'd have to say that the sweeter the ice cream, the better it will contrast with the cone. I'm thinking something epic like Ben & Jerry's sweet cream & cookies would be absolutely perfect in this cone because it brings the sweetness plus that added chocolate cookie kick that would fit in so well here. (If I brought my own cone to a scoop shop, would they fill it up?)
To be fair, I decided to wash down the salt with a little more ice cream. If you go back to scooped container picture, you'll notice how Edy's has made the nice touch of not adding coloring to the strawberry swirl. I think the contrast of the two swirls just adds that visual pop to the ice cream, though there is always part of me that goes "why isn't it red like jelly?". Anyway, I don't really feel like I'm getting lulls and surges of flavors. There are mild variations, but nothing crazy. There's also a distinctive lingering berry filling aftertaste, and I mean that in a nice way. It's trying hard to be authentic, and I appreciate that here. My only complaint is that they call it three stripes when it only has two swirls. Yes, I know the base coloring is the third stripe... but you know I love to argue semantics!
On Second Scoop: I've been craving a pretzel cone all day but let's make this about Edy's shall we. Even if you dig into the heart of the blueberry swirl, it still won't overpower you. It's not some effervescent blueberry muffin, it's just a content swirl trying to brighten up your day. It's a fine summer flavor, what else can I say? Now where are my pretzels....
Edy's Verdict? Nice summer flavor
