Breyers BLASTS Girl Scouts Thin Mint Cookie Review

[New for 2013] Our trip down the 2013 Breyers Blasts lineup has not been pretty, but the containers have already been purchased, so we must press onward!

This is the girl scouts thin mints Breyers Blasts! It's girl scout cookies thin mints pieces and a fudge swirl in mint flavored frozen dairy dessert. Ok, fingers crossed, let's remove the lid.

Well, it sure smells good enough, and it's definitely very cool looking.
In fact, let's zoom in on the swirl.

Yeah, I've never seen that in a swirl before.  It's like cocoa powder. We better dig a little deeper.

Ok, good looks restored, actually, improved. It's hard to not get a positive vibe when you get the multiple swirls spun up like this. I'm not seeing a ton of cookie pieces, so that means I'm going to aim for that big chocolate looking spot on the left. Hmmm, strangely enough, I didn't get walloped with chocolate flavor. It's a plentiful swirl, but it is not flavorful swirl.

I start munching through my bowl and it's not terrible.... definitely not terrible. There is some mint effervescence but not the kind that you might find trapped in a premium ice cream. In fact, it's kind of weird how it's not COLD COLD. Like I can take a bite that looks like ice cream but it totally tastes room temperature. It's a little disturbing (or maybe it's just the mint messing with me).

Ok, it's not bad, it's just not real satisfying. We're kind of back to the whole too smooth for a cookie flavor thing that I mentioned when digging into the slowchurned Edy's version. There are cookie bits here and there, but nothing large, nothing standing out. If there were more, I might actually be happy right now. This certainly isn't the worst of the blasts flavors. You won't regret purchasing this one, you just wont be running off to say "oh you gotta try this". Hey, at least I didn't suffer this time!

On Second Scoop: I'll admit it, this one is hard to hate. Oh there's plenty of ways to improve it, but there's nowhere near the shock that I got from Samoa. Breyers thin mint is just a neat looking ice cream though I do wish it had way more cookie pieces. I miss the the bits of chocolate cookie shell that we've found in other versions. I've had better, but that doesn't make this one bad. If you want to try this one, I won't stop you.

Verdict?  Not Terrible
Buy Again?  Better options

This is the best ice cream I have ever had. I don't know what this person is talking about because I found huge chunks of cookies in my ice cream and once almost a whole thin mint! I am not the only one who loves this ice cream, either. At my local grocery store, every girl scount mint flavor is sold out almost every single time I go to buy it. This is sooo worth it. You will NOT be disappointed.

when commenting on someone's post, try not to refer to them as "this person", it's offensive and makes your comment seem all that less genuine.

every ice cream has fans, doesn't make it a good ice cream.

Anon, you do realize this isn't even ice cream right?

I just ate some, this flavor is NOT bland! It's one of the better ice cream flavors I had in a long time of any brand. Plenty of Thin Mint taste. I had the 48 oz. container in my freezer since March and finally opened it. I hope this isn't seasonal, would like to enjoy this during the hot summer. I'd rate this a 9 out of 10.

@Anon #2: please see Nick's comment. this is not "ice cream" and offends many. I'm glad you enjoyed it. I would suggest trying Edy's version for the sake of comparison and let us know what you think.

Why is this not ice cream..? It obviously is ice cream and you guys cant see it thru the fog that has obviously covered your glasses. Its ice cream. Period. Ice has a cream that is made when the cold air hits it. Therefore its ice cream. Duhh. Everyone knows this. Its icecremeology 101. Get your facts right man. Seriously. This is absurd.

@ICG: wow, that is easily the stupidest thing I have ever heard on this blog.

Nick Rovo said...

@ICG: What did I just read? Read the label, its frozen dairy dessert, not ice cream. Your logic is flawed, throwing cream into the freezer doesn't make it ice cream and neither is this abomination.

ice cream is a frozen dairy dessert

Dubba said...

@Anon: all ice cream is a literal "frozen dairy dessert", but not frozen dairy dessert is ice cream, that's why it's labeled as such (unless a company wants to get in trouble with the FDA)

the person who wrote this review Is a weak reviewer. my chunks were large and in charge 4 of us ate it at once and everyone loved it. amazing taste, I would pick smores over this when it comes to blasts but yes what everyone else said is true, ic cream is a frozen dairy dessert. get some better reviewers on this. my price chopper and wal mart cant keep it stocked to save their lives. I am also a reviewer (paid and not from ice cream so i can respect your opinion but you should know doing what you do that you can get screwed sometimes in a tub of ice cream in terms of getting barely any goodies mixed into the batch. I didnt have that brown cocoa crap either. I had almost a whole thin mint sitting on the top.

@Anon: as a fellow reviewer, I would expect a little more respect, but maybe you are new to the game. The bloggers I appreciate and listen to are the ones who can man up and not list their comments as "anonymous".

Also keep in mind that an average consumer who buys a bum container is not going to go back for more.

and lastly, try the Edy's version if Breyers isn't stocked, it's better.

Dubba, personally I respect the bloggers who don't get defensive and feel the need to reply with a snarky comment to everything written, then again since I too am anonymous I'm sure you'll jump back up on your high horse and feel the need to make another uncalled for scolding. Grow up.

@AnotherAnon: I try hard not to get defensive, and in general I don't, but did you read the comments by the Anon at August 26, 2013 at 5:41 AM, it was fairly insulting and I simply responded in kind. I am a grown up, have been a long time, doesnt mean I have to take ever insult from "anonymous" people.

every single anon comment has been very similar. the problem with posting as "anonymous" is that all these comments could literally be the same person. maybe they should "grow up" and tell us who they really are.

Did they change the taste of this dessert? We tried this about a year ago, I believe, and the mint was incredibly overpowering. It was like eating frozen toothpaste. We couldn't tolerate it and wound up melting most of it down the garbage disposal. They should have used vanilla flavoring instead of mint.

The comment above is spot on, the bitter mint in the "ice cream" drowned out the delicious thin mint taste!

Past two comments are dead on. My boyfriend and I purchased this last night on a whim since it was on sale, and it is overpoweringly minty. All I can taste is mint and none of the other flavors in it. I wouldn't purchase it again, although, I did have big chunks of thin mint in my bowl.

I agree that this stuff is waaaaay too minty and really doesn't taste like Thin Mints at all. Are there even real Thin Mints in this? Because I certainly didn't see any. Also, I was really disappointed once I got this home to realize that it ISN'T EVEN ICE CREAM! Wish I'd gone for the pint of Ben & Jerry's instead, because the rest of this is getting melted and sent down the drain.

I just bought some. It was all chocolate. Chocolate ice cream, bits of cookies. NOT what I expected.

I agree with the reviewer. I've bought this twice and neither one had a single Thin Mint cookie of any type... not a bit, not a chunk... nothing.

It was minty and there was so much swirl... that the mint was kind of weakened by that.

I won't be buying it again.
