Edy's ( Dreyer's ) Butterfinger Fun Flavor
A Frozen Dairy Dessert Review

Alright everyone, this is an example of a flavor that doesn't exactly inspire me to blog. It's not terrible, and it does have one odd feature I need to talk about, but I had this six days ago and am now just getting around to it. Ofcourse, if I only talked about the flavors I liked (with my overly picky standards), this blog would get pretty boring!

Ok, here it is, a "single serving" of Edy's Butterfinger Fun Flavor. As you know, Fun Flavors are the "fun" way of saying Frozen Dairy Dessert. I've had the now retired Edy's LOADED Butterfinger, I've had Edy's Butterfinger MAXX, and now it's time for "Vanilla flavor with NESTLE BUTTERFINGER candy pieces and a peanut butter swirl". Oh man, I love how it just says "vanilla flavor" rather than "vanilla ice cream" (I know it's not ice cream, that's my point!)

Well, right off the bat it's definitely not as impressive as LOADED or MAXX, but it doesn't look a complete loss either. At least I can see some chocolate bits here and there, so that's good.

You know what that is? That's the peanut butter "swirl". I had to laugh as I excavated this bizarre bit of ice cream trivia. I expected a literal swirl, not an injection. Wait, look, I'm not trying to be overally picky here so let me clarify. Even though this ice creasm had been out for awhile and was quite soft, this "swirl" was still a solid mass. I wound up eating the whole thing in one bite. Thankfully it wasn't terrible, but it would have been a whole lot more useful if I could have spread it out a bit.

Ok, with that all said.... what else is there? It's not real ice cream, and this fact was made worse by the fact I let it melt a little too much. The flavor was ok. I could have used a lot more crunchies since they made such little impact that I don't even remember them. Ofcourse, I love butterfingers, so I doubt they could ever give it "enough" crunch. I guess the only saving grace here is that while it's not nearly as good as a Butterfinger Blizzard, it's a third of the cost and half the fat... nah, that doesn't really make me feel much better.

So, try this is you must or grab MAXX instead if you want more flavor but also more fat. The problem is no one else makes a butter finger flavor, unless ofcourse you can get your hands on some Blue Bell Butter Crunch Ice Cream.

Verdict? kind of boring
Buy Again? nah

  1. I also was let down by this. It could have been a great flavor, but as soon as these start to melt they turn into that weird runnny fluff. The minuscule butterfinger bits don't do it for me either.

  2. I've never understood why people love Butterfingers and this pretty much says why. They are okay, I guess, but there is so much better stuff out there. I guess this Fun Flavor is pretty much like the candy bar...boring.

  3. @Rodzilla: I miss the Edy's of old!

@IE: one word: CRUNCH - though I will admit that they don't taste as good as they did 10-20 years ago. When I was a kid, you could buy a 2 or 3 lb back of generic 5th avenue (like a butterfinger) and it was awesome.
