DQ's Pumpkin Pie Blizzard

Ok everyone, you've got one final weekend to try Dairy Queen's blizzard of the month. The oh so tasty Pumpkin Pie Blizzard is like a half frozen pumpkin pie just waiting to be eaten.

What, you don't believe me? Well how about Rodzilla? or 2 girls? or IndianapolisEater? no wait, IE got himself a junky flavorless one... how does that happen? For me, this year's blizzard was even stronger than last year's blizzard. Where's the quality control people?

Have a good weekend everybody, I'm off to brace for more snow, oh boy!

Turkey Hill Raspberry Cream Swirl Review

It's time to play "how late can Dubba be with a limited edition flavor". Ok, guess how many months? Got a number? Ok, the answer is....  4!! Now in my defense, New England is usually a month behind to start, but for the sake of truthiness, the following flavor is the JUNE limited edition flavor of the month. (Heck, I waited so long to review this summer flavor that it's snowing!! AHHHHH!!!!!)

circa 2011 packaging

here it is: Vanilla flavored ice cream swirled with gourmet raspberry sherbet. Wait, sherbet? Yeah, I missed that when I grabbed this container, I need to pay more attention when I pick these things up. Well, at least it will be fairly low fat this way.

Ciao Bella Key Lime Graham Gelato Squares Review

A couple months ago the fine folks at Ciao Bella sent me three coupons to try their new products. I then spent the next few months trying to find said new products to no avail... very sad, especially for my belly. Well, I decided to give in and pick up something that actually debuted last year.

These are the Key Lime Graham Gelato squares that are "temptingly tart". Tart scares me and is basically why I've avoided trying this, even though I love graham. Time to man up and give it a try.

Mmmmmmm, cookies

I can't remember the last time I said this, but....

I LOVE COOKING

Wait! Don't be afraid!

I was wandering around the internet one day when I decided to check out Rodzilla's Links which took me over to Kirbie's Cravings. I'm not quite sure how long I drooled over all the awesome food pictures, but I stumbled upon the Red Velvet Chocolate Chip Cookies. I knew I had to make them.

Now my wife says she tried making cake mix based cookies once before, but for whatever reason I don't really remember. That said, I can't wait to try doing this again. Assembly is fairly simple, clean up wasn't too bad, and oh do I love fresh cookies!

Just as a warning, I tried to be "different" and used dark chocolate chips but I think it backfired a little as the red velvet flavor didn't pop as much as I had hoped. On the plus side, the cookies taste more or less like regular cookies but technically they are better for you since there's no butter.

Ok, I chased three of these bad boys with a little fresh Blue Bunny Super Chunky Cookie Dough, so I'm done for the night. Stay tuned for a new ice cream post tomorrow.

Breyers BLASTS! Waffle Cone FDD Review

I was running through Walmart Tuesday night when something dawned on me: I never finished reviewing all the Breyers BLASTS! flavors! oh the horror! Ok, as frozen dairy desserts it's not exactly a huge loss, but I just did a check and I've only tested 4 out of 16 BLASTS flavors. I think it's time to dig into #5!

I'm actually fairly surprised that I went 7 months without testing something based on waffle cone pieces, that's totally unlike me hehehehe. Sorry, this is Breyers BLASTS! WAFFLE CONE with Hershey's semi-sweet chocolate chips. The packaging certainly makes it look good enough (I'm looking at you Gifford's).

Gifford's Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip
Frozen Yogurt Review

Ok, another lost review. Thankfully this review is only a month old. When I made the awful mistake of trying Arctic Zero, I had also bought a quart of Gifford's froyo to wash it down (and kept the trip from being a total waste).

This is BLACK RASPBERRY CHOCOLATE CHIP YOGURT incase you couldn't tell.... do they really need to yell with their big purple font here? I'm sorry, but this packaging is just offensive in the fact that not only do they not show the product, they are SCREAMING the name out. Oy....

Maple's Wild Maine Blueberry Organic Gelato Review

My apologies, I queued up four different reviews... and then blew my Saturday cleaning up the compact fluorescent light bulb I dropped in the living room... oh what a pain. Ok, here we go.

[wholesale distribution discontinued : only available at their scoop shops]

Oh I feel like such a heel, this review has literally been in my head for 3 months. Ohhh, at this point it's more of a mention than I review, but let's get it out there.

(I should have taken a side shot)

Blue Bunny Super Chunky Cookie Dough
An Ice Cream Review

Over 3 years ago, I had Blue Bunny ice cream for the very first time. The blog was just two months old and I was a cranky, unsophisticated little spoon at the time because I was not nice to Super Chunky Cookie Dough at all. I don't know what I was thinking back then, but man, this stuff is good.

Super Chunk Cookie Dough is Cookie Dough Ice Cream with Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Chunks, Cookie Dough Batter Ribbon and Chocolate Flakes. Did I say cookie dough enough for ya? My wife picked this up last week and I was like "eh, whatever". I've had a lot of great Blue Bunny treats since I first had this ice cream, but still, I wasn't that excited to see it again (correction: on occasion I have debated trying this one again)

Friendly's Watermelon Sherbet Review

Hey everyone, sorry I've been distracted (a post on that later), but I gotta say something, the following product is just nasty.

This is Friendly's Watermelon Sherbet.
I have tried 2 or 3 times to eat it, but I just can't do it.
What's so bad about it?

Well eating this sherbet is like eating watermelon bubblegum, and while I found eating grape bubblegum strangly amusing when I was like 8 (despite my parents telling me not to), as an adult I have no urge to do such things. I'm just not a huge fan of watermelon flavored products, and this particular treat just takes me to an unpleasant place. I'm afraid this container is destined for the trash.

Dubba's Ice Cream Hunting Guide
Six Flags New England Edition

Well, this was suppose to be a well documented hunting guide, but to be honest, the day wound up being more tiring then expected, so I don't have a ton of pictures to show for the amount of walking (and waiting!) we did.

Before I say anything else, let me comment : what is up with all the bees?!?! Six Flags really needs to work on bee control... what are they waiting for, a lawsuit?

Ok, should I start from the beginning? ...nah, why bother, what you really need to know is that right now if you buy 3 season passes, you get a fourth pass free, plus free parking. Why do I mention this at the end of the season? Because if you buy right now, you get the rest of 2011 free! Oh boy! Ok, the park is only open on weekends right now, and that's only through October, but I couldn't resist the deal.

Now I didn't really notice this two years ago,
but there is now A LOT of ice cream at SFNE.

Sure there is a Ben & Jerry's as you walk in, that's hard to miss,
but then there is bigger one down by the Bizarro ride.
You think that would be it right? NOPE!

What else do they have? Well, how about 2 Dippin Dots stands?
One by Bizarro and one by Batman

That's nothing right? well, how about a Johnny Rockets? Shakes and Burgers people!
It's located near the center of Six Flags (off to the right)

Here is where we stopped : Cold Stone LIMITED (shakes and sundaes)
Like it and Love it sizes, fairly typical prices

My wife enjoyed her Cake n' Shake just like she has had before. I knew my daughter wouldn't finish, so after she got about 2/3 of the way through her Cookies n' Cream shake, I drank the rest. WOW was it sweet and sugary!! The cookie wafer flavor should lead, chased by a sweet and creamy texture. This particular treat was borderline undrinkable because of how sweet the base was. She didn't complain, she's a kid, but it made me glad I didn't order one myself.

Day ain't over yet, and I'm still thirsty
Time to hit up the Brown Derby in the original kids' section

I patiently waited in line with Mini Gary Busey for several minutes.
I purchased a poorly made wild cherry ICEE.
There was also gelati, italian ice, and softserve (and more bees)
Not really sure what was wrong with my ICEE, but something was...
at least it was cold.

Unfortunately that is the end of my story, but the goal is to go back a few times next year once my son is old enough to enjoy more that the half dozen rides geared towards his age group. My daughter is tall enough to ride pretty much everything now, but some of the wait times were crazy. I have trouble waiting 45 minutes for a 2 minute ride. That's just not fun for me, no matter how much I want to go on a ride.

Before I go, I gotta say that yesterday seemed painfully slow. At a small, traveling carnival, the employees rush to get people on and then rush them off again because that's how they make money. At Six Flags, they've got your money as soon as you walk through the gates, so they just let everything drag on and on. I swear it felt like a literal five minute between ride cycles some times. It was painful at times yet there would be these lulls were rides were only half full. It was the strangest thing to watch.

Oh, if you have a thing about paying crazy amounts of money for ice cream, you have two other choices outside the park. There is a Twisty's softserve close by, and they have one of those 24 flavors of softserve machines. The other choice was actually a Sunoco station that had a "Giffords of Maine" placard on the side.

Archer Farms Peanut Butter Fudge Ice Cream

Ok, am I the only one who has trouble telling the difference between being bored and being hungry? I think the phenomenom gets worse as you become more tired, but thankfully today I knew I was truly hungry. Not only did I know that, but I wanted something very specific to cure this hunger of mine.

Oh yeah! I knew I needed to finally get back to Target and pick up Archer Farm's Peanut Butter Fudge Ice Cream. Every fiber of my being adores the perfect combination known as peanut butter and chocolate. I couldn't wait to open the container and start my snack break.

Edy's New Triple Cookie Fudge Sundae
A light ice cream review

Ok, this is just sad. We have had only -1- Edy's flavor review on the blog this year. You don't think that sounds that bad? Well, consider the fact that I had 6 free coupons in my possession and I still hadn't pick up anything new, that is, until the other day.

This is Edy's new Slow Churned Triple Cookie Fudge Sundae light ice cream. Now I bet you are thinking "Hey, wait, I thought TCFS was one of those frozen dairy dessert fun flavors? yeah, it is, and it comes in a red container doesn't it?" Well, you are right. There is a 140 calorie fun flavor version, and then there is the 110 calorie slow churned version. The slow churned seems like the healthier option, so let's crack it open.

Hershey's Chocolate Bar Cheesecake

Sorry for no weekend post, we were a bit distracted.... BY CHEESECAKE!!!! I may not love cheesecake, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate it, especially when it comes from the Cheesecake Factory.

Keeping in mind my previous statement and the fact I'm a cheapskate, you know it's gotta be good if I'm going to blow seven bucks on a single slice.... but it was that good, it really was. It was so chocolatey, rich, and powerful that I actually stretched it out to three servings. Granted the middle serving was an awesome mid-morning snack, but all is fair game in our household. I just really loved the cake - chocolate - cheesecake trifecta and it was just so perfect. I love a texture rich cheesecake that doesn't make cheese the primary flavor. Now throw in the chocolate chips on the back and it's basically a slice of perfection.

My wife went with the more traditional looking Wild Blueberry Cheesecake and my mom tried the Tiramisu Cheesecake as her first official slice of Cheesecake Factory cheesecake. My daughter had no interested in the family's silly cheesecake quest and so I picked her out a slice of their gigantic Linda's Fudge Cake (pictures above are not the same scale). Suffice it to say, everyone was happy with their selection.

hehehehehe, we are just a few days shy of the third anniversary of the last time we went to the cheesecake factory, how weird is that? Ok, I've got some new flavor for you tomorrow night, stay tuned.
