Breyers BLASTS! Frozen Dairy Dessert
Mrs. Fields® Chocolate Fudge Brownie

[New for 2011] Ok, finally another Breyers BLASTS on the blog. You know, I was pretty excited when all the new products hit us at the grocery store, but the reality is that there are just too many new treats to sample quickly, especially when this blog is funded mostly by my wallet and by what little spare time I have everyday. It would be like every summer blockbuster coming out on May 1st, there's jut no way to see them all. Sure, you'd want to, but it's just not going to happen. With all that said, it doesn't mean I can't try.

Here is Breyers BLASTS! Mrs. Fields Chocolate Fudge Brownie Ice Cream... I mean F.D.D.  hehehe, that looks like fudd (hey, I could have gone geeky and said floppy disk drive). The exact description is Mrs. Fields® Chocolate Fudge Brownie pieces with a fudge swirl in a chocolatey frozen dairy dessert. Look, I'm not expecting an amazing treat here. I merely want something nice and chocolately ready in the freezer for when the mood strikes. If the brownie bits add a fun factor, that's even better.

I scooped myself a bowl the other day and well, iunno, it was ok. It's a frozen dairy dessert, it's fairly chocolatey, I didn't really notice the swirl, and there are lots and lots of brownie bits. Let's face it, a treat like this it's all about the bits, and they certainly weren't what I was expecting. There are plenty of them, which is good, that should make lots of people happy, but for me though, they are way more solid and dry then I expected.

Sorry, all five shots came out blurry, but you get the idea. The bits are fairly small and vary only slightly in size. If you wash them with water and let them sit out for several minutes they actually start to get kind of gooey. Shame they aren't that gooey in the ice cream. I'm not saying it's easy to make perfect brownie bits, I'm saying that these are ok, not great, not awesome. I guess I just worry that they will annoy more than they will appease the brownie crowd.

Now I've already second scooped this stuff as a shake. It's easy enough to do with a quick melting frozen dairy dessert, plus it gives an excuse to eat all the brownie chunks first so they don't get struck in the straw. It's an ok yet sufficiently chocolately shake, just like it's an ok yet sufficient ice cream. This ice cream will do, it does what it sets out to do, it just doesn't wow me.

Verdict?  Ok
Buy Again?  probably not

On Second Scoop: I just had some of this with a cupcake and the two got along just fine. I guess I just want to reiterate that this isn't a bad flavor. It makes do and it's fairly low fat,  I just don't love it. Maybe I should always eat it with a cupcake.

  1. The name made me drool. I love chocolate ice-cream. I love brownies. I've had wonderful combinations of the two.

The second picture and the part where you write "they are way more solid and dry then I expected"/ "they aren't that gooey in the ice cream" made me realize it isn't really what I had imagined.

  2. I have 2/3 of this just sitting in my freezer. I feel bad but it's just so boring to me? I don't know what it is but it's not as appealing as it was at the store... So far I've tried the Chips Ahoy!, Mrs. Fields, Banana Split, Oreo, Tin roof sundae, and waffle cone blasts! My favorite by far is the Chips Ahoy and Waffle cone, but I want to try the smores & the Reeses flavors.

  3. Dubba, I hate to question you on something like this, because I read your blog everyday day, but do you ever like anything enough to buy again besides Ben and Jerry's haha?
