New! Ben & Jerry's Exclusive Flavor
Walmart's Carrot Cake Ice Cream

[New for 2010] On tonight's menu is the new Walmart Exclusive flavor Carrot Cake. Just like flourless chocolate cake, you'll have to force yourself to find a Walmart to get it.

Here it is, Caramel Ice Cream with Carrot Cake Pieces & a Cream Cheese Frosting Swirl. Now I had no idea this was coming, but once I saw Rodzilla review it, I knew I would have to try it (I know, it took 2 weeks to do so, sorry).

Looks full doesn't it? We've got the shiny, liquidy frosting all over the place. We also have plenty of Carrot Cake cubes floating around. You can even spy a few bright orange carrot pieces in that cake. This definitely has a look of an ice cream that is going all out.

So what do I think of it? Well, honestly, I never would have thought to mix caramel with carrot cake but man this is an excellent combo. Granted I love carrot cake, and I enjoy a quality caramel ice cream, but the textures and tastes really come together nicely here.

Now it's probably the frosting's fault, but the ice cream comes across very... well, very haagen-dazsy actually. If you had blindfolded me and I would have guessed this an H-D texture, not a B&J texture. There is a certain smoothness to H-D and that very similar nature is alive and well here. It's not a bad thing, I've just never tasted a Ben & Jerry's flavor so similar. Wow, I need a thesaurus....

My fellow carrot cake fiends are probably wondering just how good the carrot cake is and I have to say it's excellent. The carrot cake bits are just bursting with flavors and spices and are just the right size really, plus there are plenty of the cake cubes throughout. I wonder if they messed with the cube size to get it just right, but it's spot on in my book. The frosting is a really nice touch, though I don't recommend spooning it straight as it is very sweet. Instead, try to divy it up as best as possible with each scoop.

Overall, this is an excellent flavor. I'm going to totally agree with Rodzilla that this is one of B-J's top notch flavors (my only disagreement would be that I would prefer to eat Cinnamon Bun ice cream on a regular basis, and then save this for special occasions).

Thanks for the review! Sucks for us people in NYC who don't have a Super Walmart!

On a side note, I have recently found Flourless Chocolate Cake in non Walmart stores (maybe the agreement was for a certain amount of time). I freakin love it! So chocolately and good. Hope it sticks around!

Is this flavor still available? Still a Wal-Mart exclusive :-\?

I don't even remember the last time I saw this one, sorry. pretty sure it's retired at the moment. I would go to and put in a "resurrect a flavor" request

Thanks, Dubba. Well do.

Stalking my next pint and well just need to see what the gods have in store in the way of availability of Steve's and Jeni's. Both have limited availability here in St. Louis. Love the blog, guys!

Elliot, if you need any specific recommendations, let us know!

Thanks, guys! I have read your reviews at length, much will depend on availability of super premium brands here in town.

Carrot cake wasn't even in the drop down on Ben and Jerry's resurrect page! Sent a note, though.

Checked with Gillians in Maine about getting their Campfire Smores here and no dice. Same with New Orleans ice cream for cafe au lait and beignets.

Suggested gillians consider ice cream source. Have never ordered through them as I'm put off by shipping cost. Might splurge one day. Have you guys written about that service, specifically how to get the most value from it and best flavors?

Also considering ordering jenis directly depending on availability here.

Thought you and readers might enjoy this

Elliot, I've actually ordered from ice cream source twice now and we held a giveaway last year. The shipping cost is pretty high so you'll want to have a good sized order. Mine averaged around 10 pints or so to help average things out. As for best flavors, you can't really go wrong with most things from Chocolate Shoppe or NOLA. Gelatida is pretty good as well and this is all coming off the top of my head since it's been awhile since I've been on the site. Your best bet is to wait until they have a sale. They usually do something like 20-25% off and such.

Thanks so much. I've discovered a trove of Jeni's and Steve's here in St. Louis. If I can just bend the ear of the buyer into tracking down some of the A list flavors beyond the ones already in stock I should be able to wait out a sale no problem. Eyeing the banana pie, Sunday morn Steve's, French Toast, sweet potato Jeni's among others!

Right now working through Phin & Phebes Peanutty Pretzel. Spot on with your B. Want to try their banana flavor based on your review.

You guys rock!

Elliot, we don't give letter rankings or have reviewed Phin & Phebes. You might be thinking of another "review" site. Glad to hear that you've found a good stock of Steve's and Jeni's though. If you talk to the frozen food manager, they should be able to help you out with ordering other flavors.

Sorry for the confusion. You guys do rock, however!

Picked up some Jeni's banana French Toast and p&p banana whama tonight and will get busy on some due diligence here this week.

Please report back on that Jeni's flavor. No one stocks it around me and I've been debating ordering it from their website ever since it was released.
