[New for mid 2025] You know the best part of going to a new grocery store? All the ice cream stock is fresh! I didn't plan on buying anything frozen (because I'm still trying to clean the freezer), but then I saw several things I needed to try (despite not being sure how new they were). I do love black raspberry, so I think it's time we try....

Van Leeuwen Black Raspberry Chip Bars
black raspberry ice cream with chocolate chips

Ok, not bad looking. Not huge, but I just need a quick snack.
Hmmmm, ok. So it's better than some random raspberry frozen dairy dessert bar, but the overall flavor comes across a bit weird. It could be that flavor thing that happens when a company goes for a more all natural black raspberry flavoring.
I probably should have let it temper more. It's a bit stiff.
The chips didnt play a huge factor flavorwise, but they added some texture. When I was all done, I think that's when I noticed the chip flavoring the most.
Oooooo, I bet this bar would be good dipped in chocolate....
So, yeah, those are my first time thoughts. On one hand I like the flavor because it's in line with what I expect of a good black raspberry flavor, but then on the other hand, I dont know where that bit of oddness is coming from.
Let's see what happens on the second bar.
On Second Scoop: Ok, these are growing on me more which is not uncommon. I do think that it's just that natural black raspberry flavoring that is throwing me off a little. Like there is a certain smoothness to a black raspberry flavor sometimes, and it's a little strong here maybe. Not a deal breaker, just something that keeps it from being perfect. >>> I've finished all four of these now because sometimes I want just small serving of ice cream, and these will do fine. I'll probably buy another box soon enough, but I should probably try the honeycomb bar firsts.
Verdict? tasty enough

Not huge is right. 120 is surprising low. That has to be around what a skinny cow bar is?
ReplyDeleteLess actually! Skinny Cow sandwiches are 150 and the cones are 160-170 these days.
DeleteThe secret is to take small bites :)
