Haagen-Dazs Summer Berry Cake Pop

[New for 2022] In general, Haagan-Dazs usually throws us some kind of new lineup every year. 2021 only gave us pint redesigns (which I am a fan of), but 2022 is giving us the "City Sweets" lineup. There are 5 pints and 3 bars with some flavor overlap between those pints and bars. Now I've already had those amazing churro bars, so I'm pretty excited to try....

Haagen-Dazs Summer Berry Cake Pop Ice Cream
strawberry and sweet cream ice creams with cake pieces and raspberry sauce

Honestly, that scares me a little.

That's better, but the sweeet cream side is so.... tame.

This one starts off as a nice strawberry flavor and.... despite the fun packaging, it never becomes much more than that. The sweet cream side adds nothing and the cake bits, while fine, just never really transported my tastebuds anywhere fun.

So no, this one isn't bad, but I now understand why someone said this one is kind of boring. The thing that bothers me is that their white chocolate raspberry flavor is delicious. Why not bring in that sweet white chocolate magic and double up on the cake bits to make this pint amazing?

I do love all the strawberry bits in the strawberry side, and I totally ate half of the faux pint on the first scooping. Again, it's not bad, but I am a little disappointed that it's not as fun as it should be. The cake pop component really needs to pop more (sorry, had to be said).

On Second Scoop: I thought I was at least partially excited to rescoop this one this morning, but after a few bites, I'm just kind of meh on it at the moment. Ok, back in the freezer for now....  I bet the summer berry waffle bar will be a lot more fun, I just need to find it.

Verdict?  could should be more fun

  1. I've never seen cake pops in ice cream before, so this one sounded really intriguing. I agree with what you said about white chocolate because white chocolate pairs very well with both strawberry and raspberry.

  2. That's still an impressively short and identifiable list of ingredients for a big brand, though. Give 'em that.

  3. The cake pieces really needed to be coated in white chocolate—like a cake pop. That's what I'd assumed they'd do when first hearing of this flavor.

    1. Sounds like me regarding the little debbie ice cream for the strawberry shortcake swiss roll. Pieces of vanilla cake? It needs (and I bet wants) to be slices of the filled rolls.

  4. It's too bad to hear the cake pieces don't really stand out. In a few past Ben & Jerry's and Bluebell flavors that had cake pieces, I always loved the way the ice cream would soak into the cake pieces a little.

(R.I.P. my dearly beloved B&J Red Velvet Cake. You shall be missed.)

  5. Had the bar version of this...meh. The chocolate shell overpowers the ice cream. While I hate white chocolate, it would have made a better shell than milk chocolate.

  6. I think they should had used actual cake pop pieces than just regular cake. Then smash these up adding to the ice cream.

  7. The flavor is very good, I bought one but it had a green slat and I threw it away, it seems that it was the bread. they should check the quality before.

  8. so you ate around the green part, or do you mean you've had it before but one of the pints you bought was bad? It would have had to get seriously warm to grow mold. Gross!
