Van Leeuwen Vanilla Ice Cream

Ok, last of the Van Leeuwen pints for awhile (next up, who knows!).

Van Leeuwen Vanilla Ice Cream

happy seal

whoops, just give me a second to fix this

I dig in and begin to full understand the Van Leeuwen way. I realize that the richness of flavor has been coming from the eggs all along. Granted, that was probably obvious for some since the beginning, but trying 3 flavors from a brand including their vanilla really helps put everything in perspective.

On Second Scoop: If you are a fan of custard, I suspect you would quite enjoy this take on vanilla ice cream. It's not what I grew up with so it would take a little getting use to if I wanted it to be my "regular" ("daily") vanilla ice cream, but it's a quality product that is quite tasty. Give it a shot and let me know what you think.

Verdict?  well done

  1. Dubba, following up on my comment from last week--I hope you know a Costco member--I really want your take on the Kirkland super premium vanilla!

  2. I think the nearest costco is over an hour away, not really worth it, but I appreciate the recommendation.

  3. Awww, this is the last Van Leeuwen review? You're NOT going to get some of their Kraft Macaroni & Cheese ice cream to review? How can you resist? (/sarcasm)

  4. HAHAHAHA, sorry, I haven't spied that in my area! That said, I noticed that whole foods does have a better selection than stop & shop, so at some point I want to try their "brown sugar cookie dough chunk" flavor. Oh, I also have one of their non-dairy flavors in the chest freezer :)

  5. If you live near a Sprouts, they have a decent range of flavors where I live. I tried the brown sugar cookie dough chunk, but it had a sad dearth of the promised mix-ins. The ice cream itself was good, though, and my pint might have been an anomaly regarding the lack of chunks, so I hope you have a more enjoyable tasting experience!
