Hershey's Peanut Butter Caramel Cookie Dough Ice Cream

It has been awhile since we've covered a limited edition from Hershey's. Let's change that with this flavor I picked up from the Niskayuna Co-op recently!

and Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Chunks (limited edition)

If peanut butter cookie dough is becoming the next trend, I'm all for it. With Ben & Jerry's offering two new flavors this year using it, I was hoping more companies would follow suit. I'll say it again, Graeter's Buckeye Blitz is still my overall favorite ice cream and their peanut butter cookie dough chunks are one of the main reasons. Let's see what Hershey's is working with here.

Looks decent enough. It's Hershey's and all so you can't expect it to be on the same level of Ben & Jerry's and Graeter's but it's still above all the other "mainstream" brands on the market. The peanut butter base holds true to its name. It's not a strong flavor so to say, but it's enough to let you know it's there.

The caramel is injected like they do in other flavors. While the flavor is nice with a perfect sweet and salty combo, I still don't like how it's distributed. Pockets just don't lead to a consistent flavor profile and a real swirl would easily Improve this flavor.

The main draw here is the peanut butter cookie dough. While Hershey's doesn't skimp on them, the cookie dough is just not good. Don't get me wrong, it tastes great. The problem is the texture. This is some of the driest cookie dough I've encountered. It's as if they left the cookie dough out on the counter and let it dry up before mixing it in. They're just not chewy, gritty or anything enjoyable. Instead there's hard and chalky.

I honestly hope I got a bad batch but I've never had their original cookie dough ice cream so I can't say if those mix-ins are just as awful. Sorry Hershey's but it's back to the drawing board with this one.

Verdict?  Dry cookie dough makes me sad
Buy Again?  Nope
