Chocolate Shoppe Mackinac Island Fudge Ice Cream

[By Nick] Time to continue my trek through the huge shipment of free pints that I received from Chocolate Shoppe. Next up is their Mackinac Island Fudge. I saw this flavored offered by plenty of companies in the Northwest when I was browsing Ice Cream Source but never thought to pick it up. It always just seemed so plain to me.

Chocolate Shoppe describes it as “Scrumptious vanilla ice cream with a melt-in-your-mouth chocolate fudge ripple and chunks of real chocolate fudge.” While their wording does make it sound appealing, nothing screams to me that it’s a must try. I mean if I want fudge with my vanilla ice cream, I could just add it myself. I am curious about the chunks of fudge seeing as most companies fudge is just thickened up syrup. Here’s hoping Chocolate Shoppe can surprise me with this one.

Okay, well we’re definitely off to a good start. Words cannot begin to describe how beautiful this looked upon opening the pint. Just look at all that fudge! Seeing as I already know how their vanilla tastes, I dug right into those beauties.

I’m quite speechless right now. This fudge is easily the best chocolate mix-in I have encountered in all of my life. They’re deep, almost dark chocolate in flavor. What really stands out is their texture. From being in the ice cream, the outside feels like it developed almost a shell but once you bite in you get a perfectly chewy piece of fudge. Most flavors that promise fudge always tend to disappoint me but oh man does Chocolate Shoppe deliver!

Now I’d be content with just the fudge pieces but Chocolate Shoppe has gone the extra step and added a fudge swirl. The swirl basically the same product as the fudge pieces just thinner making its. This makes it possible to get some fudge into each bite. On paper, this is such a simple flavor that 9 out of 10 times I would normally overlook. I’m glad Chocolate Shoppe sent this pint over so that I could realize that when put in the right hands, a simple flavor can be turned into something extraordinary. This is definitely a sleeper flavor that shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Verdict?  Can I get a gallon of this?
Buy Again?  Oh yeah!

  1. This sounds great! I'm from Michigan, where Macinac Island Fudge ice cream is quite popular and available at most shops. It's my husbands favorite flavor. :) A visit to Macinac island in th summer is always a lot of fun too.

  2. I think there might be something particular about the fudge that makes it Mac Island Fudge... every time I've had that flavor, regardless of the brand, it seems to have the qualities you describe. You know, the way there's an official "Moose Tracks" fudge.

Anon, hmm that is very possible. I'll have to do some research and get back to you on that one.
