Ben & Jerry's
Totally Unbaked Ice Cream
chocolate and vanilla ice creams with brownie batter swirls
& gobs of chocolate chip cookie dough

I often don't love these swirled flavors because they tend to cancel each
other out...

But with the addition of the brownie batter swirl, the first few bites were
really interesting. Plus, I've already slammed in to four big cookie dough
bites. What's not too love?
My biggest "complaint" at the moment is that it's hard to work through the cookie dough. Meh, that's not the right way to say it. Better way: I can't decide if I want to go through the cookie dough or around it. Do I scoop the whole thing or break it in to two bites to help spread out the flavor?
It's been a long time since I've had half baked (though, ironically, I do have
a pint of it in the freezer because I wanted to update the picture on the blog....
wait, I don't have a regular half baked review on the blog? how can that be?)
Anyway, as I was typing that last sentence, I realized that there is a very mild
coffee flavor lingering on my tastebuds. I'd hazard a guess that everything is
coming together to form a mild mocha secondary flavor. --- Oh, there is a
little bit of molasses in here, that might be part of the flavor I'm tasting too.
So, yeah, it's good! No complaints, and in fact, I might argue this is better than the original.
On Second Scoop: Yesterday I thought I was getting a distinct brownie batter vibe from some of my bites, but today it just seemed to be a Hershey's chocolate syrup vibe. It still works, but it popped a little different today. That said, I would still give this one a try if you are interested.
Verdict? good
Buy Again? sure
Not a knock on the flavor, but I do find it funny that they literally only changed one component.
ReplyDeletei guess you could say the effort that when into i was literally less than half baked (rim shot).
ReplyDeleteI've always loved chocolate/vanilla swirled ice cream since childhood days of swirled soft serve and the rare treat of Gold Medal Ribbon at Baskin Robbins, so this flavor was a hit right away for me. The fact that I love cookie dough is just an added bonus, and the brownie batter swirl was extra chocolatey oomph. I confess, I went back and bought a second pint after trying the first one.
ReplyDeleteEndlessUniverse It's kind of lazy. Bring back Candy Bar Pie instead!
ReplyDeleteYes!
DeleteI for one did not like this much. In fact I don't care for many of their newer "creations". They have no flavor innovations with everything boring with vanilla and/or chocolate base and mix ins that are not new. Sure I like the cookie dough pieces but not a huge chocolate fan. Bring back the good flavors like cinnamon buns and red velvet cake. PLEASE! Sue more exciting and flavorful bases like cheesecake or something along those lines.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to agree. Lately I've been buying jeni's ice cream during whole foods 35% off sale and their high five candy bar has got to be the tastiest ice cream I ever tried
DeleteUmmmmm, Cinnamon Buns is still around....
ReplyDeletestrawberry cheesecake is still around, and pumpkin cheesecake comes by in the fall, but I wouldn't be opposed to one or two more creative cheesecake flavors
Depends on where you live. Cinammon Buns and Coffee Coffee Buzz Buzz Buzz , for instance, haven’t been at any store where I live for about 3 years.
DeleteThey do have Caramel Chocolate Cheesecake too (personal favorite of mine). I won't say I don't miss Cheesecake Brownie something fierce, though.
ReplyDelete@latchkey: that's right, we talked about that before!
ReplyDeleteWas looking for it for awhile. Disappointed me. Was like 80% chocolate 20% vanilla. Wanted a more even spread.
