Ben & Jerry's Netflix & Chilll'd Ice Cream

[New for 2020] Positive or negative... positive or negative? Fine, I'll be negative and say it. I was sad I didn't get to go to the fancy schmancy event that B&J put on for this new Netflix flavor. I understand that the next generation of social media peeps is where it's at, but I'm human, just like everyone else, and I have feelings. That said, it doesn't stop me from wanting to try their new flavor because it sounds like an easy win.

Ben & Jerry's Netflix & Chilll'd Ice Cream
peanut butter ice cream
with sweet & salty pretzel swirls & fudge brownies

It's not an amazing opening shot, but it's busy and that has my interested. I take my first scoop and it's got my attention right away. I take a few more bites and I don't necessarily taste pretzel, but it's definitely got a peanut butter flavor that I will enjoy.

Do all those brownies have your attention? They should, since many of them clock in as a square inch of brownie. Mmmmm, I do love measuring brownie flavor. Ok, that sounded funnier before I typed it out. Maybe I got lucky, but there are a ton of big fudgy brownies in my pint (I hope they are Greyston brownies!).

Close up shot of a hunk of pretzel swirl. For the most part, the swirl seems to be obliterated in to the base ice cream, but it clumped up here a bit (if you look closely enough anyway). My advice? Yeah, don't eat too much of the swirl at once. It's not bad salty, but it's fairly potent, especially if you watch your sodium intake (which I do nowadays [I know, it's annoying!]). To put it in a technical way instead of a vague way, eating this pint would give you 870 mg of sodium (38% of your daily allowance). That's a lot for an ice cream. I know most won't care, but I wanted to point it out.

I can't imagine not enjoying this entire pint, I'll probably just make it 3 or 4 servings if I can. I really do like the pb base here, it's very enjoyable. It's just a nice flavor overall. Sure, I wouldn't say no to a few chocolate chips mixed in just to add a crunch factor, but I have no complaints (besides the sodium). My biggest "problem" with eating this pint is deciding if I want to cut the brownies in half or eat them whole.

On Second Scoop: (I never wrote a second scoop? oops! just assume I enjoyed it!)

Verdict?  Good!
Buy Again?  Yup!

  1. I keep checking the store locator to see if it’s near me. I signed up to get emails. I’m THAT excited to try it.

  2. I got it yesterday at Shoprite and tried it last night...I had plenty of huge brownies and salty swirls as well. Def worth a try and rebuy!

  3. You didn't say what you chilled to on NetFlix while eating this. Also, this seems very close to the Peanut Butter Half Baked that was just released by B&J (I think in regular and non-dairy versions). Any preference between these two, or is it just as simple as PB + Chocolate with massive mix-ins is always good?

    1. I think I was watching Inside Edition while eating this ice cream haha You know what, this flavor is very similar. It's not a novel concept by any means but it's pb and chocolate and I'm in! The salty swirl is a little different, it's like they dumped the bottom of the pretzel bag in the pint haha

  4. @Anon: I only eat nut based flavors during my lunch breaks (aka not at home), so no chillin' was done (though I guess I could have watched something on my phone).

This is very much a salty peanut butter flavor with giant brownies, it is not going for a typical pb & chocolate vibe (though yes, the basics for that are here).

history note: PB half baked is a limited batch flavor that has returned, it's not technically new --- that said, they are definitely different flavors.

  5. For any Central Jersey searchers, I found my Netflix & Chilll'd only at Stop & Shop (and the non-dairy version only at ShopRite), but it quickly disappeared after a week--not sure if that means this is limited (VERY limited!) release. I second Dubba that PB Half Baked has its own agenda. The chocolate really permeates the whole flavor, and the pb cookie dough bites are quite another animal (and the star of that pint's show, IMO).

  6. Wow, the pretzel swirls make a huge difference when it comes to the peanut butter ice cream. Enhances the flavor and adds some grit.

  7. I read your reviews avidly and was eager to try this ice cream. I have to say I was disappointed. It was too salty for my tastes. And I am not salt-shy: I love salty snacks. Salty-sweet is usually a surefire hit with me, and I love PB. Heck, I put salt (and sweetener) in my coffee! I just think that if you prefer your salty-sweet on the sweet side, as I do, you may find that this ice cream leaves a lot ((of sweet!) to be desired.
