Ben & Jerry's Red, White & Blueberry Ice Cream

[New for 2019] We already talked about Ice Cream Sammie, the other Walmart Exclusive flavor, so let's take a brief moment to discuss the other flavor.

Ben & Jerry's Red, White & Blueberry Ice Cream
Blueberry & Raspberry Ice Cream Swirled with
Vanilla Ice Cream with Strawberries & Shortbread pieces
Ummmm.....

Ooooo, the shortbread isn't blue, it's just that it absorbed the color from the berries. That's actually kind of funny. Whenever I see this

You know what I just realized while I was trying to scoop and type, this kind of reminds me of fruit loops. It's not super strong, but yeah, I think it's there. I'm glad I realized that because the first few bites were leaving me a little perplexed because the flavor isn't super strong.

I may be going out on a limb here, but I bet this one would have sold better if you gave it a name related to fruit loops. That way, instead of people going "I'm not really sure what they were going for" they can go "oh yeah, I think i do taste fruit loops!"

Ok, going to keep it simple on the first scooping.

On Second Scoop: Not as exciting the second time...  how about the third time.... even less exciting. Meh, it's fine I guess? It'll be fine summer flavor if you are in the mood... for something pretty bland. Sorry. It just gets less interesting every time you try it, and it's not good enough to eat a bunch of, so you wind up going back several times. Am I being overly critical? Iunno, it seemed like all the instagram comments were pretty much the same on this one.

Verdict?  increasingly meh
Buy Again?  nah

  1. While the purple looked cool, I was expecting it to be more red, white and blue like the US flag/the name of the product instead of purple and white. Could you taste the strawberry and blueberry separately, or were they essentially combined into a single flavor?

What was the ice cream split in terms of strawberry vs. blueberry (or, depending on above, strawberry/blueberry combo) vs. vanilla? From the description, I was expecting the fruit flavors to be the vast majority while the vanilla was a swirl (15-20%), but your pictures looked more like a typical vanilla base (60-70%) with a fruit swirl.

Or the description was somewhat deceptive: instead of saying a more standard "vanilla ice cream with a swirl of blueberry and raspberry ice creams", a quick glance might lead people (at least dumb ones like me) that the primary flavors were the fruit ones since they were listed first.

  2. short story: this one is fairly bland as the fruit components come together to form a very mild fruity taste.

long story: yeah, the name implies that the "blueberry & rasberry" ice cream is swirled with the vanilla ice cream, so in general you can assume an approximate 50/50 mix.

I'm not a huge fan of two ice creams swirled in one pint because they inevitably blend together flavor wise with a ton of points where you distinctly taste one or the other. In the case of anything blended with vanilla, it just makes the anything that much more milder.
