Perry's Parkerhouse Cherry Ice Cream

Time to cover the last of the 100th year classics that Perry sent over to me awhile back. The first three have been a mixed bag, so let's see what this simple sounding flavor has in store...

Amaretto Ice Cream with Maraschino Cherries

I take my first bite and am shocked how much I like it. I expected your basic mainstream cherry ice cream but instead I'm met with a sweet new friend who tastes just like a cherry milkshake to me. Wow that's cool. It's like the sweetness of a good strawberry ice cream with just a bit of familiar cherry bite. To me, they dialed this one in perfectly.

I absolutely plow through this first serving. Perry's doesn't make a very heavy (dense) product, but in this case, the lighter creaminess does go hand in hand with that milkshake vibe. I just don't think it would hit me quite the same if this was a super premium ice cream (ok, it probably still would).

I guess I've always had a soft spot for these kind of cherry-vanilla like flavors. I don't grab cherry flavors often, so when I do, it's very much a "oh yeah, I like these kinds of flavors". Can you tell I'm in gush mode right now? I just love being surprised, even after a decade of doing reviews.

Thanks again to Perry's for keeping me in the loop. I expected a basic flavor but got something so much more. Never underestimate a flavor. There is a reason they are called classics.

On Second Scoop: You may find this blasphemous, but I love that this flavor doesn't have any chocolate chips in it. I think they would take away from the simplicity and elegance of this flavor. Yes, I still really like this flavor and I just had daydreams of it scooped upon a slice of Black Forest cake. Oh that would be delicious. Well done on this one Perry's, I think I have my favorite picked from the four classic flavors now.

Verdict?  dialed in
Buy Again?  yup!

  1. Ugh. We don't have Perry's around here and i would LOVE to try that. I agree not having chocolate is a good thing. My only concern would be the amount of cherries; it doesn't look like there are a whole lot from the pics

  2. There weren't a ton, but there is a decent amount. If you look closely you can see a few hiding right below the surface.

  3. Ugh, I wish just plain cherry was a more common flavor. I sometimes worry that we've forgotten the classics in a era of crazy mix-ins. *Raises cane in the air*
