Graeter's Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

About a month ago, I got an email from Graeter's asking me why I hadn't done a review with the pair of free pint coupons they had sent over. As I explained to them when they sent the coupons, there just isn't a lot of NEW Graeters in my area. I'm grateful that I have some Graeter's, but it's usually just the same few flavors I see. Thankfully I realized I had never tried....

Graeter's Salted Caramel Chocolate Chip Ice Cream

I take a few bites and the salted caramel has a very deep, rich flavor. It's more like a burnt toffee with it's subtle hints of coffee-life darkness to it. It doesn't literally taste like coffee, it just has that hint of coffee bitterness to it. That is very unexpected and I feel like I need a bit more in my serving dish, hold on...

First serving had that giant chocolate chunk in it.

I've had so many half-flavored caramel ice creams that it's weird to have a strong one again. It's nice and it's different. There is a hardiness to an ice cream when it's flavored like this. Granted, Graeter's is a more dense ice cream which helps that bolder flavor come across.

That's all I got on the first scooping. Quality Graeter's ice cream with their reliable rich flavors (and large chocolate chunks ofcourse). Well done as always.

On Second Scoop: If you like caramel things, you really need to try this one with or without chips. This is one of those flavors that broadens your expectations of what can be done with the simplest of flavors. Well done as always Graeters.

Foot note: I wrote a very positive review of this flavor sans chips here.

Verdict?  delicious
Buy Again?  ofcourse

  1. I love Graeters. It is probably my favorite brand of all time. For awhile life was great because Publix was carrying them. Then all the sudden Publix stopped carrying them. The only other option I have is The Fresh Market but sadly the condition of the ice cream case at my local store is unacceptable. Mostly everything is covered in ice. I even took a picture of an ENTIRE HAND TRUCK cart of ice cream, in front of the freezer cases, left unattended for so long that all the ice cream was soft. I sent the picture and a complaint to the corporate office explaining why I no longer spend money on premium ice cream at this store since the employees lack knowledge of food handling and ice crystal formation. Sorry for the rant! Just makes me sad because my Graeters days are probably over now.

  4. I’ve had the same experience with The Fresh Market. The ice cream case is SO frozen, it’s nuts! And I really feel like they charge too much. Makes me sad.

  5. I randomly picked this up recently too!! Even though I have a thousand pints to go through (new ice cream season means lots of premium pints on clearance to make room or new stock) I still ended up picking this up at full price anyway... I’ll get to it.... eventually. Glad to hear its got a full caramel flavor. I think the last good caramel I had was Gelato Fiasco’s Salted Caramel which I loved.

  7. @Sheila: I hate destroyed ice cream!

@Elizabeth: too funny! anything you see at 50% off has a good chance of being discontinued, so stock up!

@Ty: question: what state do you live in? I don't think I've seen them in my Walmarts.
