Klondike Peanut Butter Choco Taco Review

[for 2012 only] How can a treat be EPIC and awful at the same time? Well, it's not that hard for a choco taco.... Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. We've got an epic flavor combo stuffed inside the chewiest choco taco shell ever. Granted, it's my fault, I took a risk buying the last box, but that doesn't mean I wasn't still hoping for the best.

So here is the Peanut Butter Choco Taco in all it's 4 pack glory. Now when I tried the delightful chocolate choco taco all the way back in February of 2012, I had no idea I would wait so long to try his peanut butter brother. I mean, it seems like a great idea, so why is it so hard to find? Of the 3 dozen grocery stores I've visited in the last year, only 2 or 3 carry these. It's just that rare and I don't understand why.

I mean, come on, how can you argue with this build.

Out of the wrapper and time for eating.

I take one bite and realize two things. One, the flavor profile is excellent. It's a real salty peanut butter wrapped in chocolate and more chocolate, what's not to love? Two, the shell is awful. My wife and I ate them anyway because they really deliver that kind of wonderful treat-like peanut butter flavor you might find inside of a Reese's peanut butter cup. Yeah, it struck me as that good. Sure, there is a risk that some might even find it a little too salty, but all the pieces together really are a nice combo. If only it wasn't for the bloody bad shell (and keep in mind my box say it's good until November)

So, that's it. One quick review for a treat that's hard to savor in it's current condition. If you can find these fresh, you have to buy them.... if only we knew when they were fresh.

On Second Scoop: I just forced myself to try another one before releasing this post and by some miracle the shell was better. The shell was still dense like it was partially damaged/old, but it was still cracking as I bit down, so that helped me get through this one. I still really like the flavor here. I don't know if Reese's is the right word, but there is something familiar and flavorful about the ice cream filling. The flavor profile just really seems to jive with the gist of this treat. I like it.

Verdict?  Good times when fresh
Buy Again?  Bad times when chewy

  1. It's rare to find a Choco Taco with a shell that hasn't lost its crunch.

  2. it stinks because they are really tasty when you get a good one. It really shouldn't be that hard, especially when the sell by date is November 2013.

  3. That is what makes it so good the fact that its chewy and doesn't break up when you bite into it, I love the peanut butter choco taco, why can't I find it anymore?

  4. you liked the chewy? technically you have a point, but I still love my crunch!

hate to say it, but these are long gone, never gained any real traction in the stores it seems.
