Astronaut Ice Cream Review

My apologies to John Glenn, Alan Sheppard, Gus Grissom, and all the other characters that I can't remember from the awesome movie "The Right Stuff"... no, seriously, why did Scott Glenn play Alan Sheppard but Ed Allen Harris played John Glenn? That's just confusing....

Oh, alright, I do love that movie, but my real point is that I wanted to do a special post for the 50th anniversary of the mighty John Glenn circling this little dirt ball of ours (yesterday). That was a mighty day for science, one that led to me growing up watching shuttle launches and playing with my collection of space Legos. Heck, I even thought I was going to be an aerospace engineer when I grew up.

hey, I'm trying to take a picture here

Well the alien is smiling, so this can't be all bad

Have no fear : "Inner wrapper is slit to facilitate processing "

It's like a naked Klondike bar from the future!
(I take a big whiff and I am afraid)

ha, we've got 2 chocolate, 3 vanilla, and 4 strawberry bits, how odd!

Hmmm, looks like a 3 Musketeers bar now.

Ok, the smell is kind of weird (and disconcerting) to me. I try sniffing each section to see if it's just one flavor that's weird, but I can't really tell where it's coming from. I try a bit of strawberry and it's, well, it's different. I don't have the urge to spit it out, so that says alot in this case. My daughter tries a bite and says it tastes like a dried out marshmallow. For some strange reason she doesn't want anymore. I press on with the vanilla which isn't bad. Then I finish up with the chocolate which is, well, weird like the rest of this treat. Come on, it's not like you expected me to love this treat. Maybe I should have put mine in the freezer first.

Overall I'd say the vanilla is the best. As I always say, simplicity isn't necessarily a bad thing. I would like to thank my wife for picking this up despite knowing that while I would want to try it, there was little chance I would like it. I may be a couple decades late in trying this stuff, but at least I can check it off my bucket list. If it's on your bucket list, they have a cheap sampler pack on Amazon.

Verdict?  Once in a lifetime treat
Buy Again?  Uhhhh, no.

  2. I got to be honest with you I love this stuff. I just let it sit on my toungue and dissolve. My grandparents live in the DC area so when I went down to see them we would always go to the Air and Space museum.(probably every kids favorite museum in DC) and We were always aloud to get one space food treat. I liked when my grandpa took us because he would always let us sneak an extra one. I admit I dont get this that often but it is a guilty pleasure of mine :)
