Talenti Pumpkin Pie Gelato Layers

[New for Fall 2020] For the first time in forever, I feel like I've found something before anyone else. I had not seen anything about this product until it was staring me in the face (next to the returning B&J's Pumpkin Cheesecake and the new Eggo Pumpkin Pie Pancakes). Back in the old days, I might get the scoop on something like Ben & Jerry's Greek Froyo hitting my local shelves before anywhere else (link), but with so many people trying to be the next big instagram hit, it's so hard to be truly surprised anymore. Well, color me surprised and very happy!

Talenti Pumpkin Pie Gelato Layers #72
pumpkin gelato, pie pieces & brown sugar sauce

Gotta love the spicy look!

And the bottom's not too shabby either!

You don't have to try very hard to fall in love with a flavor like this. Talenti already makes a well respected pumpkin pie gelato (review here), so ratcheting up the #funfactor of that base with pie pieces and a tasty brown sugar sauce is an easy win. Ok, technically the bases in the layered flavors are a bit lighter than their usual stuff, but it's still a lot of fun.

Disclaimer time: I couldn't help myself and I actually bought two pints. One looked like it had a ton of sauce in the middle and the other has a bunch of pie pieces. Well, I started with the saucy one and imagine my (mild) surprise when their were no piece pieces in the middle. It was still good, but I had to dive deep to the bottom before I could start enjoying the pie bits.

Moral of the story: keep your eyes out for this new flavor! I know not everyone digs the layer concept, but for those that do, this is a winner. I found mine at price chopper but hopefully it will be popping up everywhere.

On Second Scoop: Even with a lackluster middle, I still enjoyed finishing this off today. Having more swirl would have been nice so I could add a better description of it (besides "good"), but that's why I have the second pint.... which will probably be opened tomorrow.

Verdict?  Delicious
Buy Again?  I mean, technically I already did

  1. Looks amazing. 10.5 oz is certainly stretching the definition of "pint", though.

  2. I have been looking for the regular pumpkin pie but have yet to see it. I will try this one if I can find it.

My experience with Talent is that the add ins are very hit or miss from jar to jar.

  3. In their defense, this was my first layered pint experience where I felt the mix-ins were seriously messed up (I've had about 10 of these pints). Also, thanks to the clear pint, I could tell something was up beforehand, but I risked it anyway.

That said, there are certainly times when I go "hey, why are so few mix-ins in the center of the pint?" despite looking tasty from the outside. I still enjoy the pint, but hey, I'm someone who always wants there to be more mix-ins (within reason).

  5. For those in the northeast, you can find it at ShopRite. It replaced the lemon berry one (both items have the same UPC).
