Blue Bunny Strawberry Shortcake Load'd Sundae

[New for 2018] Yeah, you read that right, 2018. Stop & Shop was touting a new item and I knew there is a new red colored load'd sundae, but it's cherry cheesecake, not....

Blue Bunny Strawberry Shortcake Load'd Sundae
strawberry ice cream; strawberry swirl; strawberries;
shortcake pieces; candy coated strawberry bunnies

Well, it sure looks like it should be fun. I probably should have eaten a few of those bits first to try them... but Noooooo, I went and dived in for a huge blast of strawberry flavor instead. Yeah, those first few bites are certainly fun.

I confused myself for a second because I wasn't sure if I had knocked some shortcake pieces in to the ice cream, but then I was pretty sure they were mixed in. It's certainly a busy sundae and it's very easy to scoop because of the lighter texture (blue bunny has gotten pretty light these days).

The pink bunny Bs are cute but you can't taste any difference because there is just so much strawberry flavoring here. Don't get me wrong, I love a good fun strawberry sauce, but as I went on, it started to build up a bit of an artificial taste to it. I couldn't tell if it was just overwhelming or fake... actually, it was probably both.

By the end, I wish I had dumped this on a scoop or two of vanilla ice cream. It's just too much. It started fun but wore me down. I actually didn't finish the last two bites, it just wasn't worth it. I could have easily eaten half for a big strawberry blast and saved the rest for tomorrow. Oh well.

Verdict?  too strong

  1. These are "new" at my stop and shop too. Sounds like it could use some contrast.

  2. Those reminds me of the NYC ice cream cups with the strawberry sauce running along it. I forgot the brand. It would come in plastic cup with wooden spoon.

  3. FYI, the new Monster Cookie Sundae suffers from the same over-the-top sweetness. Plus, it's billed as "oatmeal" flavored ice cream, but there was no telling it from their vanilla (or any other "white" ice cream flavor they use). The PB Mallow Mania Sundae, however, was great--nutty, marshmallowy, and with a nice and salty pb swirl to temper its sweetness.

  4. I liked these! I am a fan of strawberry sundaes! It did have a bit of chemical taste at the end and the ice cream was on the light side. They were $2.99 each at Jewel in my area for the longest time. I thought that was too high. Bought them when they were on a sale 2 for $4.00. Still a bit high for what you get but tasty. If they were cheaper i would by more often.
