Adirondack Creamery Banana Chip Ice Cream

[by Nick] It's been a bit since we've had Adirondack Creamery on the site (I'm sure you all remember that pistachio disaster I went through). Well this time I grabbed another iffy flavor for me from the Niskayuna Co-op, Banana Chip. You all know my love/hate relationship with banana flavored things so let's see if Adirondack can get back on my good side.

Everything looks as expected with a good amount of chocolate chips to contrast the yellowish base. As for taste, the base is treading a bit too on the ripe side for me. It's not in the same ballpark as the Talenti or Haagen-Dazs gelato versions but it's close.

Thankfully they've included some high quality dark chocolate chunks to the mix. The chips are average in size adding for a much needed crunch throughout the ice cream. They were in abundance, almost reminiscent of a Stracciatella. They help keep the ripeness in check and even add a bit of their fruity quality to the flavor. It actually reminds me of a better version of Ben & Jerry's Chunky Monkey. Yes, this doesn't have walnuts like that but then again they don't add much to Chunky Monkey anyway.

This is a solid banana offering for those who love bananas but not something I'd see myself purchasing again with the access to Stewart's Monkey Business and all. So I say give it a go if you can find it but you're not missing out on a whole lot if it's not available in your area.

Verdict?  Little too ripe base but great dark chocolate
Buy Again?  Not likely
