To shove, or not to shove

Ok, we need to have a little chat... ok, I just need to talk to myself and remind myself to lay off the snacks already. It's just, well, I've been on a snacking binge and I just chased my lunch with a twisted frosty (M&M ofcourse). About two thirds of the way through, I felt full... but I just couldn't bring myself to waste that ice cold yumminess, and now my tummy is just a bit too full. Ohhhh, I know better, and I'm usually really good about stopping, but every now and then, you just let go and remind yourself why you don't do that anymore.

I'm not 18 anymore, but I don't "diet" either. Diet is an evil word. You know, I was jokingly going to write a post a long time ago called "the ice cream diet", but then I discovered a book with the same name. Oh well. You know what my ice cream diet tips are? Very simple.

1) Start by reading the nutrition label. Get a little guilt going first.
2) Pick a smaller bowl - big bowl is just asking for trouble
3) Uses a bad scoop: a standard spoon works fine. This makes it harder to get more ice cream out.
4) Now that you've made yourself a moderate treat, ENJOY!!!

If you don't enjoy it, what's the point? The whole point of ice cream is to put you in a good mood, that's why it's a dessert! Now if you have trouble moderating, do regular ice cream one night and low fat or sherbet the next night (in general this is what I try to do). Please don't try to deny yourself either. You know what happens when I deny myself a small treat? I go out and buy myself a big treat like a frosty, and now where am I? Double or triple the calories and fat of what I wanted a few hours earlier (plus I'm down a few extra bucks). It's all about balance. Work and Play. Fun and not so Fun. Treats and Exercise. Ice Cream and going for a nice Walk (which I should have done today but I had to run an errand).

I don't know, I guess I just don't want people to get the wrong idea. Sure, I might have a treat at lunch, or even at breakfast on a rare occasion, but by no means am I advocating the never ending devouring of said treats, especially the "super premium" kinds. Remember, it's all about the balance. Ice cream is a break, a time to relax, just don't let it break you.
