Tillamook Dark Chocolate Cookies & Cream Ice Cream

[New for early 2024] So Tillamook has a new "Chocolate Collection" of four dark chocolate based flavors. This base uses "45% More Cocoa" than their standard chocolate base. The flavors are Brownie Batter, Chocolate Hazelnut, German Chocolate Cake, and...

That looks pretty dark!

Kind of fun how the white cream sticks out!

Is it chocolatey? Why yes, yes it is!

Are the cookies going to be super noticeable against this backdrop? Texture wise, yes, but flavor wise, not so much. The big chunks certainly stand out, but you won't necessarily get that traditional cookies and cream vibe with a base this chocolatey.

Honestly, I don't know what else to say. My only thought while eating this was that maybe I should add some more cookies because those are probably the most fun bites for me.

If you need a chocolate fix, this lineup should do just fine!

On Second Scoop: You know how a dark chocolate sorbetto can have that little bit of a watery vibe to it? Yeah, I get that here. You see, I was thinking about this one between scoopings and got to thinking that the added cocoa had made the texture a little less smooth than a typical Tillamook flavor. I went in to the second scooping trying to test that theory and that's when I noticed the little bit of wateriness and also that the texture is indeed at least a little different. [for clarification: regular Tillamook is fairly soft and creamy, so a step up means that this is a bit more like traditional mainstream ice cream]

Verdict?  chocolatey!

  1. I've been eager for these, I tried the Brownie Batter variety. I love the Chocolate Brownie Extreme Blizzard from DQ, probably my favorite single item. The Brownie Batter Tillamook is 95% there to the Brownie Extreme Blizzard, with the only difference being a lack of a fudge swirl. A fudge swirl may have made this ice cream better, but Tillamook likely wanted to highlight their stronger chocolate base (Which is excellent and everyone should try once).

The Brownie pieces were delicious and numerous. Maybe I just really like Brownie pieces in Ice Cream, they stay soft and chewy in cold Ice Cream and have that extra chocolate flavor.

    1. If you have a cold stone near you and haven't tried Chocolate Devotion, it may impress you

    2. I adore Cold Stone's Ice Cream cakes but have actually never had their ice cream proper! I'll make a note to try it.

  2. Did you try the german chocolate? That's my favorite cake and have always wondered why that wasn't a more popular ice cream flavor. I was curious about what someone else thought before I bought it.

    1. I'm not sure when I'll get to try it (especially since coconut really isn't my thing), but I would suspect that it's at least decent.
