I usually find a way to eat bad products that I purchase or find someone who can use it. I usually don't waste food. I seen some previous commenters feeling guilty bc they have a cpl pints in their freezers at a time. I have quarts. No joke. Right now I have 2 Quarts of Blue Bunny Cherry Pickin Chocolate, 2 Quarts of Blue Bunny Peanut Butter Party(tip:scoop it,microwave it, stir it & eat it. It's like a Resse's Blizzard from Dairy Queen:)) 1 Container of Edy's French Silk(I pour Hershey's Syrup over it), 1 pint of B&J Cherry Garcia(best ice cream on the planet), 1 Box of Magnum Double Caramel Bars, 1 Box of Magnum Double Raspberry Bars, and last but not least, I just picked up a box of the NEW Dove Chocolate covered Raspberry Sorbet Bars tonight. Sounds terrible, huh? I don't live alone, I live with my fiance, but the ice cream will be eaten by me:) Lol.
I've only thrown out ice cream that I didn't like once, it was just not edible. It was a terrible batch of the Edy's French Silk. The chocolate pieces(which I normally love were disgusting. I picked through as much as I could and tossed the rest. The only other times I've thrown it away is if it's the tail end of the container and starting to freezer burn.I throw them out to make room for more. When my electric goes out(due to storms) I only worry about my ice cream. Could careless about my steaks, chicken, etc.
Very good topic. A sprinkle of salt and/or a drizle of honey can add depth and dimension to a dull vanilla but one of my favorite things to do with it is make easy ice cream bars between layers of Crunch'N Munch and chocolate ganache mousse-the rich ingredients balance out the bland ones. In quite some time. And that's actually, in large part, thanks to you and Nick. Over time, I've grown to trust & lean on your ice cream expertise. You've helped me stay away from some abysmal ice cream varieties, that I may have pulled the trigger on, out of sheer curiosity, otherwise.

But back when I did take a few uneducated gambles on ice cream, if I had an unsatisfactory pint or carton, I would always try to pass on the remaining ice cream off to a significant other or family member. I love ice cream and like so many flavored that even when I debate trying a new one, I generally stick with what I know I like because, why mess with what I like. I know it can be fun to try new things but, with ice cream, I adore certain flavored. Or, if a flavor sounds incredible, especially if its brand I know I like, I'll try it. For example, I want to try empower mint since I know I love mint, brownies, and Ben in jerrys. Therefore, I rarely have ice cream to throw out. Plus, people in my house eat almost anything...the only time in recent memory that I just could not finish something was the chocolate chocolate chip HD gelato...I think it was a bad pint because it was horrendous. But I had a few bad pints of B and J cookie Dough and ate them. But I can't really blame you) and will on occasion get things I do not like (I do not buy things I know I won't like, such as coffee flavored ice cream, but sometimes intriguing things just don't work for me: I didn't care for Blue Bunny's Cookie Dough even though I generally like cookie dough ice cream); since I'm the only one in my household that eats ice cream, I will throw out things I don't like, though I do give most things a "second scoop."

I will also throw out some ice creams that are just OK but not worth the fat/sugar from eating it. Because I have little willpower (and because I don't like to waste money or add to our nation's amount of food waste), I will likely eat it relatively mindlessly if it is still in the freezer, so into the garbage it goes to remove the temptation.

The above generally only applies to flavors I haven't tried before, but I will throw out some of the container if I get a lackluster batch of one of my favorites since it's not living up to my high standards for that flavor.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
